When it comes to fashion or hairstyles, everyone has an opinion; unfortunately there isn’t a red carpet “stylometer” that can truly depict who wore it best! In this case, ‘it’ is hairstyles and though many women rock their gowns with grace and class, who has the headdress to match?
As the ladies walked the red carpet at the 2009 Golden Globe awards, the fashion police were clearly on duty. It took no more than an hour to have the latest fashion faux pas’ on the World Wide Web. Fortunately there were many more hits than misses at this years awards ceremony and thanks to great hairstyle professionals, ‘how’ people wore their hair became just as important as ‘who’ they were wearing. The dress is always the most memorable part of any red carpet event but the hairstyle should compliment it rather than compete with it. A hairstyle can make or break an entire outfit and a gorgeous Dior gown can be completely played down with an all too casual, too formal, or too boring hairstyle!
There were many stunning dresses at the Golden Globes and while the overall package said ‘look at me!” the very best hairstyles were the most elegant and understated.
Strapless was a constant trend for the evening and Eva Longoria wore it with the utmost class. Her scarlet red mermaid dress flattered her figure and her hair was a fabulous match for this body hugging gown. Pulled completely back in a low coif, Eva’s shade of dark chocolate brown hair is neatly swept away from her face. Shining from the overhead lights, her healthy hair looked thick and lovely. A simple look like this didn’t need hair accessories to spice anything up. Her dress was the star of the show and her hairstyle the supporting role.
Lisa Rinna exploded with glamour with her short straight sexy hair. Her low plunging neck line was the perfect choice to harmonize with her hairstyle, exposing her shoulders and back. Lisa’s signature fringe in the face style couldn’t be worn at a better time with bangs becoming the hottest hairstyle trend of the year. Maturely worn, Lisa’s hairstyle is classy, chic and suits both her and the Red Carpet event perfectly.
If anyone can pull off sexy wearing a bag over her head, it’s Eva Mendez but fortunately, she opted for an incredible strapless white Dior dress and a gorgeous turquoise and diamond necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels instead. This type of fancy schmancy gown and accessory, couldn’t afford to give much attention to the hairstyle, which is why her choice to do a casual updo was the perfect choice for this event. Swept to one side of her face, Eva’s hair falls into her face and secured with holding products. Her diamond earrings, close to her hair add the necessary glam her hairstyle needs without adding anything to her hair itself. Good going Eva.
A young actress who walked the red carpet with gorgeous hair was Hayden Panettiere. Not given as much attention as other Hollywood celebs, like Evangeline Lilly or Miley Cyrus, her blonde hairstyle is much to be desired. Straight at the top with bigger curls at the bottom, Hayden pulled her hair to the side. Though not the best dressed gown of the evening, her hair looked shiny and healthy with various shades of light to darker blonde and the style simple yet effective was enough to draw attention to her beautiful face.
For Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks, her hair made more of an impact than did her dress. The choice of a black gown was good as it contrasted with her red hair and fair skin but the style was nothing to ‘ooh and ahh’ about. Fortunately, her hair made an impact as she sported a gorgeous set of loose ringlets. Red cascading curls reached shoulder length and her curly fringe fell into her face just above her eyebrows. Extra volume was created with fuller curls added at the top of her head and placed onto her forehead. Above all however, Christina’s curls looked healthy and that’s what lent to the beauty of this gorgeous curly head of hair.
Other memorable celebrity hairstyles were Demi Moore with her romantic long spirals and Drew Barrymore with her Marilyn Monroe retro hairstyle. Overall, it seemed yet again that the glamour on the red carpet was a success on both the film and fashion front. The celebrity hairstyles were mere examples of what trends are yet to come in the New Year.
